Christmas Baskets

Programs, generally supported by donations from the community, that attempt to facilitate enjoyment of the Christmas season by low-income community residents through distribution of food baskets which usually contain a ham, turkey or other meat and all of the trimmings for a Christmas dinner (or vouchers to purchase these items) and occasionally gifts for children or other family members.

Christmas Light Displays

Drive or walk-through displays of holiday lights and scenes of the Christmas season that are sponsored by community or neighborhood groups or other organizations for the enjoyment of all. Also included are holiday parades of Christmas lights which may feature decorated boats or other assorted vehicles and special ceremonies where Christmas trees are lighted.

Christmas Meals

Programs that provide a hot Christmas meal in a congregate setting for low-income and homeless individuals and families who might otherwise have no opportunity to celebrate the holidays. Also included are programs that deliver Christmas meals to people's homes.

Santa Claus Appearances

Programs that hire people to play Santa Claus and talk with children about the gifts they want during the Christmas season. "Santa" may make appearances in local department stores and shopping malls, visit children who are hospitalized or in other institutional settings, ride on floats during Christmas parades or be available to attend private holiday parties.
