Description:

Assists with resolving disputes by patients about surprise medical bills on or after Jan 1, 2019 from a single health care provider for more than $1000. Surprise billing usually happens when a person needs emergency care and is not able to choose an in-network provider without risking their health or life; or when a person seeks care at an in-network facility but some medical providers, such as anesthesiologists, radiologists, and labs are not contracted with the in-network health insurance.

Vary and are split between the provider and the patient
