Emergency Medical Technician Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to provide advanced life support care for people who are ill and/or injured and, when necessary, to transport patients to a health care facility for further treatment. EMTs apply artificial respiration or administer oxygen in cases of suffocation and asphyxiation, dispense antiseptic solutions to prevent infection, start and administer intravenous fluids, and perform other emergency medical procedures during the ambulance ride. Emergency treatment for complicated problems is carried out under the direction of medical doctors by radio preceding or during transport.

Fire Services Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to respond to fires and other emergencies in situations where lives, property and the environment are at risk. Responsibilities may also include fire safety education, investigating the causes of suspicious fires, and enforcing fire codes.

First Aid/CPR Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to provide first aid including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) assistance or assistance using an automated external defibrillator (AED) following a disaster or other emergency. Volunteers in this position must be able to recognize and respond to emergencies such as shock, cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, children and infants; heat and cold emergencies; sudden illnesses and poisonings. They treat injuries such as cuts, scrapes, muscle, bone and joint injuries and provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest using an AED.

Search and Rescue Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to assist the police or other law enforcement officials in efforts to locate and retrieve individuals believed to be in distress, lost, sick or injured either in a remote or difficult to access area. Specializations include urban search and rescue, mountain rescue, water rescue, K-9 search, man-tracking, ELT-down airplane search, underwater search and rescue, emergency medical services, and communications.
