Airport Travelers Assistance Programs

Programs that operate information booths in airport terminals that are staffed by people, usually volunteers, who can answer questions for the traveling public regarding airline schedules, airport facilities, hotel accommodations, tourist attractions, city bus services to and from the airport, ground transportation, and directions for people driving into the city or outlying areas; provide airport paging services; arrange for interpretation services for visitors speaking a language other than English; arrange for wheelchairs; and provide general assistance for people with disabilities or special needs.

Consulates/Foreign Government Representatives

The headquarters of public officials who have been appointed by a foreign government to reside in the United States and take responsibility for developing and protecting the economic interests of that government and looking after the welfare of any of its citizens who may be traveling or living in the U.S.

Emergency Road Service

Programs that arrange for the dispatch of a tow truck to assist motorists whose vehicles have become disabled on roads or highways because their car has stalled, they have a flat tire, are out of gas or are locked out of their cars. Services may include towing, tire changes, jump starts, lockout assistance (key breaks in the ignition, broken keys in the door or trunk, lost keys or keys locked in the car) and emergency fuel and water delivery.

Foreign Visitor Assistance

Programs that have been established for the express purpose of assisting tourists from other countries who have encountered difficulty and who may have language barriers or other problems that make it hard for them to access needed services through direct channels.

Tourist Information

Tourist bureaus, information centers and other community organizations that make available information about local points of interest, cultural events, recreational activities, hotels, restaurants, medical and dental services and other community resources.

Travel Directions/Trip Planning

Programs that provide route information and other details needed for local or regional travel. Services may include driving or cycling directions; information about transportation options; help in choosing the mode of transportation that best fits a particular trip or schedule; and/or personalized assistance in planning a one-time trip or a new commute including transit routes for available bus, train, subway and ferry services, with time and connection details, and needed maps and schedules.
