Business Opportunity Registration

Programs that make an official record of businesses offering to sell or lease products, equipment, supplies or services for the purpose of enabling the purchaser to start a business.

Corporation Registration

Programs that make an official record of businesses that will operate as corporations, i.e., legal entities created under the authority of the state which have an existence that is distinct from their individual members and which continue either in perpetuity or for a limited number of years despite changes in their membership. Corporations may be for-profit or nonprofit.

Limited Liability Company Registration

Programs that make an official record of businesses that will operate as limited liability companies (LLCs), a business structure that has features in common with corporations and partnerships/sole proprietorships. Owners of LLCs report profits/losses on their personal income tax returns and are protected from personal liability for money owed by the business.

Local Business Licenses/Permits

City or county offices that issue licenses, permits or other authorizations which enable businesses to operate legally within the local jurisdiction. Included are general business licenses which are required of all businesses within a particular city or county and licenses which allow specific types of regulated businesses to operate legally.

Partnership Registration

Programs that make an official record of businesses that will operate as partnerships, an arrangement that involves an association of two or more people who enter into a contract to pool their money, labor and skill to operate the business and to proportionately share the profits and losses.
