Activities may include lectures or other presentations that deal with the sun, planets, stars, galaxies, comets and other celestial bodies; excursions to observatories or planetariums; group observations of eclipses and other celestial phenomena; and other similar opportunities for members to engage in their hobby. Some astronomy clubs/societies arrange for or provide access to telescopes or other related equipment, often in partnership with a local library.

Activities may include lectures, slide shows or other presentations that provide information about different aspects of geology; field trips to sites which illustrate different rock formations or geological processes; and opportunities for people who collect rocks, fossils or seashells to exchange information about their collections and make further acquisitions. Included are Internet-based virtual clubs, WebRings devoted to the subject and clubs where members meet face-to-face.
