Debris Removal Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to clear debris (such as dangling limbs, leaning trees or bushes) that may be blocking access to homes, roads or public areas following a disaster or other emergency; or to clean up after other activities such as the removal of buildings that creates debris. Tasks may include transport and disposal of construction waste such as sheet rock, wood, cement or rubble; removal and recycling of roofing metals and vehicle scrap metal.

Environmental Protection/Advocacy Volunteer Opportunities

Environmental action groups and other similar organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to work for the passage and enforcement of laws and other social measures that will more effectively protect the physical environment from pollution, exploitation or waste and/or preserve natural resources, including wildlife, for enjoyment by future generations. Volunteers may be asked to work on specific initiatives, e.g., protection of a particular endangered species, mandates for cleaner burning fuels, or measures that protect the oceans and their ability to support marine life; or on more general environmental advocacy projects.

Graffiti Removal Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to spend time painting over or removing inscriptions, designs and other markings that deface buildings, walls, rocks and other artifacts or natural structures in commercial districts, residential areas or the countryside.

Land Conservancy Volunteer Opportunities

Local environmental organizations that are actively seeking individuals to work on a voluntary basis without remuneration on projects involving the acquisition of open spaces or other land for the purpose of conservation, care and protection in perpetuity.

Litter Cleanup Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are willing to spend time picking up trash that accumulates on the highways, in rivers or streams, on beaches, in flood control channels or on other public property on a voluntary basis without remuneration.

Nature Trail Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are willing to participate in nature trail maintenance projects on a voluntary basis without remuneration. Tasks generally include installation of drainage structures, trail tread maintenance, trail mulching, pruning, weed control, exotic plant removal, litter removal, and, on occasion, planting.

Stream Cleanup/Water Conservation Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to participate in projects whose objective is to clear debris, waterweeds or non-indigenous plant life from rivers, streams, harbor areas, flood control channels or other waterways and their associated watershed; preserve wetland areas; or protect water resources from indiscriminate waste and ensure that the supply of quality water is adequate to meet the needs of the public, agriculture and industry.

Tree Planting Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to work on projects that accept tree donations and help schools, neighborhood beautification projects, community housing programs, nonprofit organization landscaping projects, and others involved in community beautification efforts to plant the trees and/or care for them.
